Rancho Cielo is a comprehensive learning and social services center for underserved and disconnected youth in Monterey County who share our vision of their future success. Our goal is self-sufficiency, and the self-esteem it generates, for all young people.
Established in 2000, we are a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Residing on 100 acres and encompassing two ponds, mountain biking trails and a cultivated garden, Rancho Cielo is also a restored piece of Salinas Valley natural history. Removed from the urban neighborhoods that have fostered self-destructive lifestyles, the Ranch provides a safe place to run, hang out and breathe fresh air. It also enables outdoor science education in a way not available on most campuses. We believe that every young person deserves to have the choice whether to go to college or go to work–or both. Our students have barriers to success that are not of their own making. While some of them have made bad choices, they are often made from bad options.
In August, 2019 Encuentro de Vaqueros presented a check for $1750 to Susie Brusa, CEO of Rancho Cielo at their Annual Summer Fun Event.
Bob Hoover Academy
The Bob Hoover Academy is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. We create opportunities that inspire at-risk and underserved teens to get engaged in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) education and to take flight in aviation. Aviation is a metaphor for the deeper mission, to capture students’ minds, focus their energies and to cultivate success in the classroom and in life.
Each student earns admission into our flight training program by excelling in our ground training curriculum. From there, the ultimate transformative experience is to leave the instructor on the ground, take an airplane into their own hands and fly solo. Students become accountable to themselves and their teammates, challenging themselves in order to participate in an endeavor that can have a measurable impact on their future; ultimately, they develop the skills and confidence to launch themselves out of their current orbit towards a course as a dynamic and contributing member of society.
In September, 2019 Encuentro de Vaqueros presented a check for $1759 to Sean Tucker of the Bob Hoover Academy.
